La vista perduta dei ragazzi, boom miopia. Tablet e pc finiscono sotto accusa

Ebola death toll reaches 2,288

http://www.bbc.com/news/world/africa/
The Ebola outbreak in West Africa has killed 2,288 people, with half of them dying in the last three weeks, the World Health Organization (WHO) says. It said that 47% of the deaths and 49% of the total 4,269 cases had come in the 21 days leading up to 6 September. The health agency warned that thousands more cases could occur in Liberia, which has had the most fatalities.
The outbreak, which was first reported in Guinea in March this year, has also spread to Sierra Leone and Nigeria. In Nigeria, eight people have died out of 21 cases, while one case of Ebola has been confirmed in Senegal, the WHO said in its latest update.

Sir John Franklin: Fabled Arctic ship found

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-29131757

One of two British explorer ships that vanished in the Arctic more than 160 years ago has been found, Canada's prime minister says. Stephen Harper said it was unclear which ship had been found, but photo evidence confirmed it was one of them. Sir John Franklin led the two ships and 129 men in 1845 to chart the Northwest Passage in the Canadian Arctic.
The expedition's disappearance shortly after became one of the great mysteries of the age of Victorian exploration. The Canadian government began searching for Franklin's ships in 2008 as part of a strategy to assert Canada's sovereignty over the Northwest Passage, which has recently become accessible to shipping because of melting Arctic ice. Expedition sonar images from the waters of Victoria Strait, just off King William Island, clearly show the wreckage of a ship on the ocean floor.
"I am delighted to announce that this year's Victoria Strait expedition has solved one of Canada's greatest mysteries, with the discovery of one of the two ships belonging to the Franklin Expedition," Prime Minister Stephen Harper said in a statement.

Russian parents want topless dolls banned for 'Sexual Propaganda'

Barbie no more nake?

A parents’ committee in the Urals has expressed outrage over what it sees as “sexual propaganda” put shamelessly on display in several of the region’s toy stores: scantily clad dolls. Members of the Urals’ Parents Committee sounded the alarm after discovering a risqué doll in a “Children’s World” store in Nizhny Tagil, UralInformBureau online news agency reported Tuesday. The group says they intend to file a complaint against the store owners with the children's ombudsman and local prosecutors after a thorough check of all children's stores in the area. "I think sexual propaganda among minors can be discerned here," Nikolai Gorlo, an activist specializing in legal issues, was cited as saying by UralInformBureau.
He complained that what little clothing does come included with the dolls leaves nothing to the imagination, begging the question: "What associations will come to mind for kids?"

EU sanctions start to hit Russian oil giant Rosneft

With the EU poised to unleash more sanctions over Ukraine, previous measures mean Rosneft is cutting staff and production as its access to Western financing and technology has been severely curtailed. That makes it more difficult to service $55 billion of debt and get the imported equipment needed to develop new fields and upgrade refineries. Rosneft has had to ask for the equivalent of $40 billion in state help from a Russian sovereign wealth fund. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has said the company could get it, calling it reasonable, as the investment would be repaid from revenues from oil sales. Talking about sanctions generally he said: “The government’s responsibility is to protect Russian businesses facing unfair and unlawful actions by foreign states or foreign companies”. Rosneft, which alongside gas monopoly Gazprom is a top contributor to Russian government coffers, needs to invest heavily to bring new east Siberian fields online. Apple unveils 'supersize' iPhone 6 and watch

iPhone6
Apple has lifted the lid on bigger iPhone 6 models, with screen sizes of up to 5.5 inches, and also unveiled its first watch. Powered by the A8 processor, the new phones are a significant upgrade from the outgoing flagship, the iPhone 5S, which has a 4-inch screen. The watch - called simply Apple Watch - is customisable in "millions" of ways and comes in different colours.
The company says it is a comprehensive health and fitness device which has many of the same features as a smartphone - but crucially needs an accompanying iPhone to work. A user can also tap on the screen of their device and another person with an Apple Watch can feel the tap on their wrist.

He has been tweeting images of his underwater adventure, including an early morning snap of a passing barracuda. In one message posted online he said: "In bed for first night's sleep under 20 metres of ocean. Oscar Pistorius Trial: Verdict Due This Week

Pistorius
The judge in the trial of Oscar Pistorius will this week deliver her verdicts in a case that has captivated the world.
For six months a Pretoria court has sought the truth behind what happened on the night the athlete shot his model girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, through the locked toilet door at his home. The state claims the couple had rowed in the early hours of Valentine’s Day last year and that Pistorius shot his girlfriend deliberately.
Pistorius admits shooting Ms Steenkamp, but insists he mistook her for an intruder and fired in self-defence. In a first for South Africa the entire case has been televised. While the audio of the testimony was broadcast, witnesses were given the option not to appear on camera. Pistorius, once South Africa's golden boy, spent seven days on the witness stand giving his version of events.

Diamond Worth Up To £10m Boosts British Firm

The biggest

A 232.08-carat white diamond, recovered from a mine that produced gems for the Crown Jewels, could fetch a value of up to $16m (£10m). The estimate was made by analysts after Petra Diamonds, which bought the Cullinan mine in South Africa from De Beers, showed off the rough stone. Petra's share price soared 7% on the FTSE 250 in the wake of the announcement, even though the company declined to put an estimate on the stone.
The find is not Petra's largest white diamond. In 2009 it unearthed a flawless 507-carat diamond, also at the Cullinan mine. The diamond was known as the Cullinan Heritage and fetched $35.3m - a record price for the company.

Su Instagram arriva il 'time lapse' con l'app Hyperlapse

Instagram new service
